IU may be taking on another drama soon and it may be through the upcoming KBS 2TVMon-Tues drama ‘Trot Lovers‘
A drama rep told Ilgan Sports, “IU has received the casting offer for ‘Trot Lovers’ and is positively reviewing it… There is a good chance she will be cast… IU played the character of a female high school student with singing ability in the drama ‘Dream High‘. This character also suits IU in various aspects. The bright female lead character also coincides with IU.”
A KBS rep commented, “It’s true that we have sent over the script to IU, but there are others whom we have also sent scripts to, so it’s at a stage where we’re just getting organized and making contact with the candidates.”
This news especially has fans’ attention for if she does decide to take this on, then she could possibly star alongside one of her best friends Yoo In Na‘s boyfriend, actor Ji Hyun Woo! As she and Yoo In Na are known to be extremely close, fans wonder how the two would joke about the situation.
As mentioned before, ‘Trot Lovers’ portrays the success story of a woman in her twenties who has a talent for singing trot and meets a genius composer who helps her to become a trot singer. KBS also plans to pick up their viewer ratings by diverting from the heavy melodrama genre like ‘Full Sun’, ‘Golden Cross‘, and ‘Big Man‘, and portraying a romantic comedy with ‘Trot Lovers’.
It is currently set to enter filming this month and follow ‘Big Man’ this June!
High4’s “Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms” is currently ranked #1 on Melon and Daum Music, after 21 days of release.
After its release on April 8, the song had killed 10 music charts, ranking #2-3 through the weeks. Recently, the song rose over Akdong Musician’s debut album title song “200%” and took the throne.
It is unprecedented for a rookie group to hold #1 with a debut song for such an extended period of time. Sources point to IU’s contribution for the song’s success. IU had participated in the featuring, lyric-writing, and the music video for the song.
High4’s debut song “Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms” starts with a romantic acoustic guitar sound and features a funky groove. The freshness of spring is carried throughout the melody, while IU’s witty lyrics are sung by the exquisite harmony of IU and High4.
Sibling group Akdong Musician’s “200%” is ranked #2 on Melon, while still ranked #1 on Mnet.com, Olleh Music, Genie, and Naver Music.
In today’s music charts, A-PINK’s “Mr.Chu” and Park Hyo Shin’s “Wild Flower” also compete for the top.
Starting from June 27th, the Korean drama ‘Pretty Man’ starring Jang Geunsuk will be broadcast exclusively in Japan on KNTV! Below is the interview with IU, who acted as Kim Botong in the drama, the average girl in love with Mate (Jang Geunsuk).
Q. Tell us how you felt when you first read the scenarios in ‘Pretty Man’, and why you decided to act in the drama.
A. I acted as the girl, Kim Botong, who had a crush on Dokgo Mate for 10 years. The character Botong is lively and full of charm, so I thought to myself that I definitely wanted to take up this role. It’s based on a comic and when I read it, I found it so interesting that I lost track of time. That made me want to do this even more.
Q. You were acting as a lively character and on TV you seem to have an outgoing personality too. Are there any similarities between you and Botongie?
A. We fly into a rage easily. If I don’t sleep well or if someone takes away something I was going to eat, I’ll get angry (Laughs). When Botong has her eyes on Mate, if anyone gets in her way, she gets angry. I think we’re similar in that we get really angry when someone gets in the way of something we like.
Q. Botongie is really animated and certainly adds an element of fun to the drama. The love lines are also enjoyable in my opinion. Botongie is infatuated with Mate, but on the other hand, the pure Choi David appears. What was it like acting as Botongie, caught between Mate and David?
A: Botong has been looking only at Mate for the past 10 years, so she has never been loved or shown her female side. It’s the first time she’s been loved by anyone, so she doesn’t think of it as love. She only sees David as a soulmate that she can click with. But one day, she receives a confession from David, so she feels really confused and caught between the man she likes and the man who likes her. I feel that this conflicted side of her is very much human and empathised with her. Objectively speaking, I felt impatient that Botong couldn’t sense David’s feelings towards her. But eventually, she went back to the side of the man she likes. I think it’s really cool of her to make that decision. Just that David’s pure love was really beautiful too, so if she got together with David, they would have made a cool couple too. That was a bit of a pity.
Q. If you were Botongie, who would you choose between Choi David and Dokgo Mate?
If it were up to me, I think I would have chosen David. I like it best when someone tells me they like me (laughs) and Mate ignored my feelings for 10 years, going out with many pretty and stylish women. So I think I would feel hurt and since David is a really cool guy, I would have chosen him.
Q. How did you feel when Jang Geunsuk was cast as Dokgo Mate and Lee Jangwoo as Choi David?
Jang Geunsuk is the famous ‘Asia Prince’, so it was amazing and I felt realy honoured to be able to act alongside him. Lee Jangwoo and I got along really well from the first shoot. We have the same interests in dieting and food (laughs), so we hit it off straight away and he always made me feel comfortable at the filming site. Jang Geunsuk is really mischievous, so he’s the moodmaker at the filming site. I’m the youngest, so I should be the moodmaker, but I get embarrassed easily, so I can’t do it. I’m really thankful towards Jang Geunsuk for covering that part for me.
Q. You mentioned that the mood was joyful at the filming site, so were there any interesting episodes in particular?
There were lots, so it’s hard to pick one… Jang Geunsuk was using his own car to film. During filming breaks, I rode in his car and he drives really well. Although it was only a short period of time, because he brought me for a spin, it helped me to relieve my stress. When I filmed with Lee Jangwoo, because we both like food, we kept making bets like “who would lose more weight by tomorrow” and had dieting contests.
Q. The drama will be broadcast in Japan in June, so tell us more about what there is for us to look forward to.
A. Botongie and Mate’s romance, Botongie and David’s romance. I think it’ll be interesting to observe how Botongie changes when she’s with each of them, as well as how she develops as she is loved and loves someone. Since it’s based on a comic, there are many scenes that are comic-like. There are many lines or expression-acting and other comic-like over-the-top scenes that are different from other dramas, so people who like those will enjoy it.
Q. There’ll be a ‘Pretty Man’ fanmeeting in June. Could you say something to KNTV viewers and others who are looking forward to the event?
A. KNTV viewers, the ‘Pretty Man’ cast will be meeting everyone in Japan in June, so do give us your support. Please give lots of love to ‘Pretty Man’, especially Botongie. Thank you.

Following the general pause in the music industry following the Sewol ferry accident, the top 10 on the music charts at the time of the accident on April 16 have been maintaining their spots for a week, due to groups postponing their comebacks and holding back from promotions for the time being.
Akdong Musician’s “200%,” HIGH4 and IU’s “Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms,” A Pink’s “Mr. Chu,” Park Hyo Shin’s “Wild Flower, and 15&’s “Can’t Hide It” have been unchanging in the top five.
The general atmosphere of the music industry, and in turn the stagnant charts, have been affecting music consumption, as well. Visitors to music sites have fallen as little as 5% to even 10% on the higher end, which is then reflected in purchases.
On the tail end of this will come a major surge of comebacks in May, including those that were originally planning on releases in May and then those that were unable to make their comebacks in April. The artists with comebacks ready are especially on the edge of their seats, considering the upcoming Brazil World Cup in June, which is known as a slow period for the music industry.
One industry official said, “In the midst of the atmosphere of grief and mourning, the various record labels are deep in discussion. There are teams that are just pushing back their comebacks to after June, switching out their title tracks and reshooting their jacket photos.”

IU was the special DJ on the April 14th broadcast of MBC FM4U‘s ‘Music City’ and when the topic of one-sided love was brought up, IU shared, “I don’t have much experience with one-sided love. I don’t tend to like someone first.”
“But I did have a one-sided love before. I really liked him. The feeling of a one-sided love was really nice. Whether that person felt the same way about me or not, I was really happy to like someone that much.”
When comedian guest Heo Kyung Hwan asked, “Did you confess?”, IU shared, “I confessed. If I like someone, I confess my feelings.” Hearing her bold statement, Heo Kyung Hwang responded,“Ah but we won’t reveal when this happened.” However the honest IU insisted that she wanted to share as she said, “Can I just say when it happened? It was last year,” surprising not just the comedian but the listeners as well.
When asked what makes her happier, when she loves or when she receives love, IU shared, “To be honest, I still don’t know. I am the type to like everything about the person that I like. I am the type to easily fall in love.”
