2012 ‘Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards’

On February 22nd, Gaon held their first ever ‘Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards‘ at the Blue Square Hall in Seoul.

Gaon is the national chart of South Korea and is intended to be the equivalent of Oricon in Japan and the Billboard in the United States. The organization’s awards stand out by recognizing not just artists and idols, but stylists, choreographers, producers, composers, and other professionals in music industry as well.

This year, the show was hosted by Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon and composer Joo Young Hoon, with appearances by B2ST, IU, Super Junior, and more.

INFINITE, IU & Verbal Jint are netizens’ choice for ’2012 KMA’!

Although the ‘2012 KMA (Korean Music Awards)‘ will be happening one week from today, the results for the Netizens’ Choice awards were released ahead of time.

The awards ceremony will be held on February 29th, recognizing various artists in a variety of categories, a few of which will be determined by netizens’ votes.

Netizens were able to vote for their favorite female and male artist, as well as their favorite group from January 18th through February 17th.

Verbal Jint clinched the #1 spot as the netizens’ choice of male artist with 1,193 votes out of the 5,228 votes cast. Meanwhile, IU was chosen as the top female artist with 2,986 votes out of the 4,527!

As for the netizens’ favorite group, a fierce battle royale between many of the industry’s top stars fought for the title, but in the end, ‘trend idols’ INFINITE came out on top with 9,311 votes out of the 24,424 cast!

Hello, I’m the singer IU. I attended auditions from the first year of middle school and was eliminated many times. I wondered if I was lacking in some way, or perhaps I wasn’t good-looking enough… I had such thoughts. Even so, I never questioned whether this was the right path for me, or whether I could become a singer.

That’s because, to me, I was working harder than others because of my love for music and I carried a confidence that had no real basis, just thinking to myself that someday I would become a singer. Therefore, because I didn’t give up, I debuted as IU, and I guess that’s why I have the chance to meet all of you like this now.

If you fail right away now, that’s not the end. Don’t get frustrated. If you prepare step by step, one day your “good day” will arrive. Everyone, fighting!

IU to cameo on ‘Salamander Guru’

Hit SBS sitcom ‘Salamander Guru‘ is known to feature cameo appearances by today’s top celebrities, and it looks like singer IU is the next to make her appearance on the series!

The program teased fans with the photo above via their official Twitter page and wrote, “The weather is quite foggy today. We ‘Salamander Guru’ staff members filmed at Namsan in the morning. See the pretty lady IU in the photo? You will be able to see her on the 6th episode ^^”

Nong Shim noodles plans to recruit IU to endorse for them

In order to secure their competitiveness in both the overseas and domestic markets, Nong Shim noodles is going all out in their marketing, seeking endorsements from popular K-pop singers such as B2ST and IU.

Last year, Nong Shim’s ‘white soup’ ramen caused a drop in their market shares, thus they plan to recruit the highly popular IU to be their model for another product, ‘slurp knife-cut noodles’ to boost their sales.

Nong Shim noodles hopes that if IU becomes their model, they would able to regain their market share and becomes Nong Shin’s “flare” to aid them in their product marketing.

According to a representative from Nong Shim noodles, “It’s true that we have contacted her side regarding getting her to be the model for our ‘slurp knife-cut noodles’, but nothing concrete has been decided yet.”

Previously, IU revealed on an April 2nd episode of MBC “Quiz to Change the World” that her secret to warming up her vocal cords was to eat a cup of ramen really quickly.

Also, according to a fanaccount on U-ana from a fan who happened to be at Gimpo Airport when IU left for the Japanese showcase, IU was seen holding a cup of ramen in her hand and complaining to someone who looked like her manager that too much water was poured in.

‘Goddess’ IU arrives at fansign event, fan kneels down in respect

Singer IU experienced the heat of her popularity at the venue of the fansign event today.

On Feb 19th, IU took part in a fansign held at a large mart in Gimpo and some fanphotos of the event surfaced on the Internet.

IU was wearing a lovely pink knit sweater, smiling adorably and showcasing her star quality as she gave out her autographs sincerely to fans. In particular, an enthusiastic fan even went down on his knees in front of IU and the image of the flustered staff rushing forward to pick him up brought laughter to everyone.

IU’s popularity is evidenced by the hundreds of fans that flocked to the venue. Despite her busy schedule, IU didn’t stop smiling throughout the event, for her fans who had been waiting for a long period of time.

Netizens who saw the photo commented, “IU looks really pretty in the pink top”, “I want IU’s autograph too”, “IU shines whereever she goes”, “The way she keeps smiling is her special charm”.
